A Completely Self-Indulgent Fashion Illustration

Sorry for no updates, but I've been soo busy with work. It's illustration work, but for a video game company, so of course none of it will see the light of day for months and months. Sigh. But I'm having tons of fun!

Going back to a genre that I never excelled in, here's a fashion illustration I did as part of Aimee Fleck's new zine all about fashion and superheroes. She asked everyone to choose a superhero to dress up, and so of course I chose six: those fabulous rainbow spandex teenagers, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It was done very quickly, in part on the plane ride home for thanksgiving, so please forgive that I obviously spent no time on the couch, table or glasses, and that they look nothing like themselves. I...can do better. I swear. This was largely just self-indulgence.

They're at a masque of sorts, I think? Who was your favorite? I always loved Billy :3 The team is wearing Balenciaga (menswear spring 2012) and Givenchy (spring 2011 couture & menswear, spring 2012 RTW).

Herculean Woman

This is a painting I did as a commission, it's about 5' by 4' and was a lot of fun! Acrylic on canvas. I don't have a good shot of it yet, but here are some process shots.

The inspiration for the piece started with vintage comic covers like these.

Here's the tight sketch for the painting, and then the basic colors, laid in with photoshop. then I transcribed the image onto the canvas and started laying in basic colors.

And here are some shots of the finished painting! I loved putting in the details, it's like icing on the cake, it's the sweetest most indulgent bits that are worth all the build-up.

This was a fun project to work on, and I would love to continue doing large paintings like this occasionally. It was helpful to have a patron who backed the expenses! This was thanks to Mr. Andelman's support.

Crossdressing and Love-Bites

Last piece for my tiny erotic illustration series. She's not going to stop 'til she's got him/her covered in hickies. Also, bloomers. mmm.

Polyamorous Love Affair

I wanted to draw a three-person intimate scene. This needs some tweaks, but there you have it. Trying something new with the coloring technique. Kind of mixed-media.

Sweet Sweet Couples 1 and 2

Here are the almost-final versions of these two. THESE WERE REALLY FUN. I want to do more couples! Like same sex couples, or tall/short couples, or other contrasting couples...What kinds of couples should I do? Want me to draw you and your s/o?

Roma: a map

A map of a man peeling away the years of foggy memory surrounding his old home on a seedy street in Rome.
Based on an essay called "Intimacy". Unfinished.

SketchUp

I enjoy using Google SketchUp to build spaces and then populate them with drawings. For example, I made this image:
with this model:
I've played with SketchUp a lot. It can build really detailed models, but for the purposes of drawing, I like to leave the models simple. It's also faster.
Here's an unfinished drawing of my studio!

The Convention

A poster of an anime convention, although it has parts that one can find at any con. I've been to my fair share in my youth. It was always so much fun. Nowadays I feel like an old-timer, surrounded by overexuberant awkward youngsters and adults who are more comfortable shedding their dignity. You can usually find me hiding in the artist alley.

Riverdale

An unfinished map of Riverdale, plus a redesign of the Archies gang. I know I know, I drew Jughead like a hunk. Hush. I think he's dreamy.

By the way, Society of Illustrators

I got 2 pieces into this year's student competition show.

The opening reception with on May 6th, starting at 6pm. If you're in the area (NYC), come see the show! admission is free at the reception. The show is up from May 4th through May 28th.

Salary Men

On a morning JR line train, a sleeping man with a small piece of fuzz on his head is observed by an odd person, who is in turn observed by a salary man. A hand is poised over a brief moment they will both share.

the label on her head reads "gaijin".

MICA Postal & Print

A project I attempted after rediscovering how much fun drawing cutaways are. A map of the Postal & Print office where I work. I tried to get the details mostly right. Can you spot any inaccuracies?
